Emma Lake
Emma Lake Drawings, 1995
Diluted Acrylic on paper
African Paduk Frame
As a Workshop Leader at Emma Lake, Saskatchewan in the summer of 1995 I was provided with a studio space to develop a project. Over a three week period I produced eight medium scale drawings. Beginning with a simple geometric form on white paper I applied diluted paint in thin layers to build a feeling of mass and a sense of light. Having worked with steel I was in part imagining the heat and light of molten steel as it was transformed into a hardened form. I intentionally compressed the images within the frame to emphasize the density of both the process and the material. The titles refer to the specific paint colours I used for the series.
